Care for Baltimore County families

Baltimore County wraps around the city from Catonsville to Dundalk, and its hospital needs assessment named behavioral health as one of three countywide priorities. In 2022, 41.0% of the county’s high school students said they had felt sad or hopeless for weeks at a time, compared with 36% statewide.

From Towson and nearby towns, our Bethesda office is about 35–54 miles (49–75 minutes in light traffic). Therapy and psychiatric visits, including evaluations, can also be done by telehealth.

Early childhood services and local needs

For children under 3, the Baltimore County Infants & Toddlers Program takes referrals at 443-809-2169. For ages 3 and up, call Baltimore County Public Schools Child Find at 443-809-3017.

Baltimore County has more mental health clinicians per resident than the state average (County Health Rankings 2025), but finding the right fit and an opening can still take time.

Meeting with us from Baltimore County

If you’re in Catonsville or Arbutus, Bethesda is roughly 50 minutes away without traffic. From Towson or Perry Hall, expect longer. Many clients start by video and stay there.

Psychiatric medication follow-ups are especially easy to keep by telehealth, so a refill doesn’t depend on Beltway traffic.

Questions from Baltimore County

My toddler isn’t talking yet. Where do we start in Baltimore County?

For children under 3, call the Infants & Toddlers Program at 443-809-2169 or refer online at referral.mditp.org. For ages 3 and up, call Baltimore County Public Schools Child Find at 443-809-3017. Both are free.

Is a school evaluation the same as an autism diagnosis?

No. A Child Find evaluation decides whether your child qualifies for special education services at school. An autism diagnosis is medical and comes from a clinical evaluation, which some plans, including TRICARE’s autism program, require. Blue Sails offers autism evaluations.

Do we have to drive to an office from Baltimore County?

Not usually. Our Bethesda office is the closest, about 35–54 miles (49–75 minutes in light traffic). Therapy and psychiatric visits, including evaluations, can be done by telehealth.

Where can a veteran in Baltimore County get mental health care?

In Baltimore County, VA care includes the Eastern Baltimore County VA Clinic, 5235 King Ave, Suite 200, Rosedale. Blue Sails offers therapy and psychiatric care for veterans and military families. If you get your care through VA, ask your VA care team what options you have, and call us to talk through yours.

Who do I call in a mental health crisis?

Call 911 in an emergency. Otherwise, call or text 988 any time; it connects to local crisis services. Veterans and service members can press 1.

Can one practice cover therapy, medication and autism care?

Blue Sails offers outpatient therapy (individual, couples, children and teens, including EMDR for trauma), psychiatric medication management for children and adults, and autism evaluations. We also have an autism early intervention day program for ages 2 to 6; ask about availability. Veterans and military families are welcome, and Blue Sails accepts TRICARE.

Let’s find the right provider for you.

Call or request an appointment, and tell us whether you’d like telehealth or the Bethesda office.
