### Your life, beyond the role

For communities near NAS Patuxent River, Joint Base Andrews, NSF Indian Head, Fort Meade and NSA Annapolis, and veterans connected with Charlotte Hall VA Clinic (CBOC). These names identify local communities; Blue Sails does not claim federal affiliation.

## You do not have to explain why it is complicated

A new duty station can mean starting over with care. Deployment can change routines long before departure and after homecoming. Leaving service may bring relief, grief or questions about who you are next. You deserve space to talk, even when you are still getting through the day.

## Find a starting point for your situation

-

### Active duty and TRICARE

Active duty civilian care needs a referral and pre-authorization.

-

### Spouses, families and EFMP

PCS moves, deployment and changing school routines can stretch a family.

-

### Combat trauma and moral injury

Nightmares, guilt, grief or feeling on guard may follow you home. Explore trauma care and sleep concerns; ask which clinicians offer CPT, EMDR or PE.

## Match what you need with a service

You do not have to choose a treatment yourself. Use these service pages to explore methods, then ask about clinician fit and availability.

| What you are carrying | Service to explore | What to ask |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Feeling on guard, trauma or moral injury | [Outpatient therapy →](https://bluesailscounseling.com/services/outpatient-therapy/) | [Ask about trauma training, CPT, EMDR or PE and sleep concerns.](https://bluesailscounseling.com/services/outpatient-therapy/) |
| [Mood, anxiety or medication questions](https://bluesailscounseling.com/services/medication-management/) | [Medication management →](https://bluesailscounseling.com/services/medication-management/) | Discuss an evaluation and follow-up needs with a prescribing clinician. |
| A child’s development or disrupted routines | [Autism services →](https://bluesailscounseling.com/services/autism-services/) | Ask which evaluation or family supports fit your child and plan. |

## Sort out the referral before the first visit

-

### Tell intake the basics

Share your plan name, military status, visit preference and a safe way to reach you. Leave clinical details and sensitive work information off marketing forms.

-

### Check the right pathway

VA: request a consult through your VA team and review your authorization letter.

-

### Confirm the clinician and costs

Ask intake and your payer to confirm the participating clinician, service, authorization dates, visit limits and expected costs. Approval does not guarantee payment.

-

### Plan for changes

Before a PCS move, deployment or authorization end date, ask who will handle renewals and record transfers through a secure process. Ask about scheduling and visit-format availability.

## A military referral is a distinct pathway

Direct contact with a mental health provider remains an option. Ask your military care team about current procedures and limits on privacy; this does not replace civilian insurance authorization.

## Questions before you begin

Can my family ask about EFMP and autism care?

Yes. Ask intake which child and family services may fit, and confirm clinician availability. Your contractor can explain your child’s next steps.

Do I need a PTSD diagnosis to ask for help?

You can contact intake about stress, grief, sleep or a difficult transition without deciding on a diagnosis yourself. A clinician can assess your needs. If you want CPT, EMDR or PE, ask about the provider’s training and availability rather than assuming every clinician offers each approach.

Will my command be told if I seek care?

Ask the clinician to explain privacy, consent and military command-notification rules before sharing details. Safety, legal and military exceptions may apply. Do not send sensitive details through a marketing form.

## Keep exploring at your own pace

- Mental health care during a PCS move

- TRICARE autism care and family transitions

- Talking about moral injury and sleep

## Start with a conversation about your next step

You can ask about care, costs and scheduling before deciding. Share basic contact and insurance details; save personal history for a secure clinical conversation.
